Marine Systems Treatment

In-Harbour Chlorination (IHCR)

The WES In-harbour chlorination rigs (IHCR’s) provide a single-unit containerised solution for control of microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC).

In-Harbour Chlorination is the standard operating procedure mandated by DefStan 02-781 to disinfect submarine reactor secondary sea water cooling systems (SWC) to prevent micro-biological fouling (leading to microbiologically induced corrosion—MIC) and macro fouling (partial or complete blocking). WES IHCR units have been supporting maritime subsea platforms for a number of years and following detailed technical assessment is the accepted best available technique (BAT) and is now viewed as a standard procedure.

Seawater in HMNB dockyards and especially basin water is often problematic and adds to the potential for corrosion. The WES IHCR systems will add a metered Chlorination dose to the SWC systems to control and at best prevent the risk of MIC

Copper Nickel Passivation

The WES CuGuard™ unit is suitable for conditioning Copper Nickel (CuNi) piping systems and heat exchangers.

Used for initial “Burning-in” of CuNi systems or following de-scaling, the CuGuard™ prepares a saturated solution of technical grade ferrous sulphate and incorporates a dosing system to apply the solution directly to the pipework system in pipe passivation or film maintenance modes.

Ice-Pigging

Offered via our partners Nivalis Tech—Ice Pigging offers significant benefits over traditional pipe system cleaning methods to improve cleanliness and “platform” availability.

Ice-Pigging is a pipeline cleaning process utilising a two-phase ice and liquid slurry which forms a semi-solid plug within the pipe known as the ice pig. The slurry is pumped through the pipe like a liquid, but moves through pipework like a solid plug, detaching contaminants and fouling from the pipe wall and carrying them out of the pipe within the ice pig.
