Service Engineer

Job Details

Working as part of a growing service, maintenance and refurbishment team, the successful candidate will have a background in the water industry. Ideally with working knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, and control systems in chemical dosing, the candidate will be able to demonstrate a good level of previous experience and expertise in the following:

Primary Duties: 
The role involves travelling to client sites, both clean water and waste water sites, to carry out servicing, reactive maintenance, repairs and replacement on pumps, plant and chemical dosing equipment.
Conduct site surveys to assist with commercial proposal generation.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide a reactive response, to customer request demonstrating a flexible and pragmatic approach to solve customer problems.
  • Build personal, sustainable and robust customer relationships.
  • Adhere to company and client requirements for safe systems of work to the highest standards at all times. (Demonstrating lone working best practice on unmanned remote site).
  • Keep comprehensive records in order to document work carried out and to allow correct billing of service and parts to client.
  • Safely carry out mechanical and electrical tasks.
  • Demonstrate competency to work on chemical dosing systems and equipment and working on customer sites by achieving and maintaining accredited standards e.g. Confined space; Working at height; Chemical safety and Electrical safety.
  • Demonstrate logical thought and follow process documentation to quickly identify fault and correct root cause.
  • Configure, calibrate, repair and adjust a range of WES and 3rd party equipment on customer’s sites to achieve optimum performance. This includes; pumps, valves, pipework, controllers, sample monitors and systems. Report findings directly with the client and report back to WES in a timely and realistic manner.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Flexible working may be required as some jobs require overnight stays or working outside of normal hours to ensure customer deadlines are achieved.
  • Train others, including client operators and staff to use WES and other 3rd party equipment such as plc, chemical monitors and bespoke equipment.
  • Collaborate with the wider WES team to share product and customer information.

Personal Attributes:

  • Equally happy working on mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Electrical qualification, either 18th Edition or JIB card desirable but not essential or CSCS card
  • Prepared to attend training in order to achieve relevant certification to attend client sites
  • Strong communication skills that build sustainable customer relationships
  • Able to work unsupervised
  • Desire to finish a task
  • Flexible start and finish times so that client problems can whenever possible be resolved in one visit
  • Driving licence

Bob Cook is Senior Proposals Manager. After completing a traditional engineering apprenticeship at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Bob was one of the original partners who started the business in 1986. Bob now applies his considerable experience to developing proposals & solutions to meet customer requirements, as well as providing technical support & passing on knowledge & expertise to colleagues across the wider WES business.

Dosing Products Business Manager

Ian Price is WES Dosing Products Business Manager, leading the business stream responsible for delivering a wide range of standardised chemical dosing packages, ad-hoc dosing needs and ‘off the shelf’ dosing products & solutions. A mechanical engineer with over 20 years’ experience in fluid handling solutions into the water, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food & beverage markets.

Jamie Cole

Operations Director

Jamie Cole is Operations Director. Jamie joined the business in 2018 bringing career long experience in a variety of operational roles – including service delivery to the property and utilities sectors. Jamie is responsible for the management of all operational activities of the business including the repair, maintenance & refurbishment business stream, and our site installation and workshop manufacturing teams. Jamie also forms part of the senior management team of WES.

His extensive experience includes a number of senior roles working for various SMEs and large organisations in the water, power generation, petrochemical, marine and food & beverage industries. As a qualified marine engineer, Graham has established his career in Sales and Business Development and is responsible for the business development, marketing and sales of systems, products and services across WES.

Carl joined WES as Non-Exec chairman following an appointment via the Business Growth Service to assist the business with growth strategy. A highly experienced Business Mentor, Coach, Managing Director & Non-Exec Chairman, having led product, manufacturing, contracting and service provider businesses for nearly 30 years. A strong track record of market, sales and profit growth within a diverse range of sectors.

Core competencies include business growth strategies, board & business leadership, strategic planning, sales & marketing management, P&L & balance sheet management, acquisitions, divestments, outsourcing, TUPE transfer, mentoring & coaching.

Kevin Wheeler

Managing Director

Kevin Wheeler is Managing Director. Kevin trained as an Engineer at the Royal Aircraft Establishment and joined the business in 1989. Kevin now leads the Board of Directors setting strategy and defining priorities to meet the business objectives & growth aspirations whilst adding experience to technical issues where required.
